Dan Hurst, a Kansas City morning DJ for over 20 years, has not slowed down. You heard him on KUDL and KMXV (Mix 93) and suddenly he was gone. Fired! As Hurst says it, “Apparently the company (Entercom) needed my income more than I did.”
But Hurst had an inkling something was up, so he began developing his place in the voiceover business.
Voiceovers are those voices you hear every time you hear or see a commercial on radio or TV. They’re those voices you hear on training or sales videos. Or those late night TV infomercials.
However, Dan has an edge in this highly competitive business. He speaks Spanish. Fluently. He grew up in Honduras as the son of missionary parents.
“Mom and Dad always made us speak Spanish in the house if there was anyone…ANYONE…who spoke Spanish,” according to Hurst. And considering that they had guests in their home 350 days a year, they spoke a lot of Spanish.
“There’s not a day goes by that I don’t thank the good Lord and my parents for that opportunity,” says Dan. “I grew up in a different culture, learned a different language, and developed a whole different view of the world.”
Now, almost any day of the week, you can hear Dan in his recording studio voicing commercials, or training or sales videos in Spanish. “And once in awhile,” Dan says, “something in English!”
Dan decided that he needed a website that would convey his unique talent. So, he called on two local companies to develop www.DanHurst.com.
They sealed the deal over lunch at a restaurant in the new KC Power and Light District. CremaLab and Exploding High Five collaborated to design and put the new website online. CremaLab developed the graphics and web display. Exploding High Five, a specialist in web site interaction, developed the elements of the website that viewers connect with: the demos, the blog, the updates, email, etc.
According to Hurst, “I couldn’t be happier with the production of both of these companies. They sat down with me, determined what was important to me, and had the international vision to put it all together. There aren’t very many companies worldwide that have that sort of vision. We’re very fortunate in Kansas City to have these guys.”
