Back At It!

Filed under: Voiceovers — Dan Hurst @ 8:44 am

I think the perfect vacation is where you’ve had a great time but you’re glad to be back and ready to get back to normal (whatever that is)!

It was a great visit with the family.  I even had a good time with my brother-in-law!

As always happens when I’m on vacation, I spend some time thinking of ways to improve my voiceover business.  Business is great but one can always use a few more clients, right?  So this past week I went through the whole routine - what has worked, what hasn’t worked, what needs improving, etc. etc.

So now this week, as I get back to normal, I’ll begin putting some of those new plans in motion.  What are they?  I’ll tell you if they work.

And if they don’t work I’ll find somebody to blame.

It also occurred to me again while I was on vacation: why aren’t there more bilingual ads? I mean truly bilingual - English AND Spanish in the same ad.  The Hispanic influence on the U.S. is such that there are hundreds of thousands of bilingual Americans and if you’ve been around any of us, you know that we talk both languages in the same conversation!

And it’s not just English and Spanish.  I was sitting on a bench in Monticello, VA, the home of Thomas Jefferson, and was fascinated by a family from India carrying on a spirited conversation both in their native tongue and in English.  They were equally at ease with both.  Jefferson would have been proud.

Listen to any Spanish radio station and you’ll hear the jocks doing the same thing.  Spanish to English and back…not missing a beat…equally at ease with both languages.

So why aren’t there more ads like that?
