Growing Pains!

Filed under: Voiceovers — Dan Hurst @ 11:52 am

Growing one’s business is a long, arduous task, isn’t it?

It takes a lot of Energy, Focus, Failure, Effort, Commitment, Time and Strategy!  I call that EFFECTS in the little Personal Success Strategy Seminars that I do from time to time.

I don’t know of any entrepreneur that has succeeded without those 7 elements.  And Voiceover people need to learn that.  There are far too many people in our industry that jump in to doing voice work thinking that all they need to do is hang out their shingle and they’re in business.

Nope.  Doesn’t work that way.  Occasionally a job will land in your lap, but for the most part getting voice jobs is a combination of talent and business.  We are IN business!  No matter how great your voice is, if you want to make a living doing voiceovers you have to go into business…and treat yourself and your product that way!

The voiceover business takes an amazing amount of EFFECTS.  Mainly because you are most likely in business for yourself.  You’re a one-man (woman) shop.  You have to do everything – marketing, accounting, production, sales, etc.  It’s all you!

Take some time to analyze how you measure up in each of those elements of EFFECTS.  Where are you in that journey?  Which elements need a little more attention from you?  What EFFECTS are you having on the Voiceover industry?
